Denver-based composer James Battersby grew up in Colorado Springs where he studied piano and violin from the age of 5. A versatile musician, James has performed on Piano, Violin, Viola, Organ, Voice, Marimba, and many other percussion instruments, as well as recording and producing his debut album “Fragments of a Lost Mind” in 2024. In 2024, he also received a degree in Music Composition from Wheaton College where he won 1st place (2023) and 2nd place (2022) in the Composition Competition. In 2023, James attended the Summer Program at the Film Scoring Academy of Europe in Varna, Bulgaria, and received training with composers such as Christopher Young and Norman Ludwin. He also had a number of recording sessions with the European Recording Orchestra. In 2022, James was a finalist for the Christian Worldview Film Festival scoring competition and also wrote music for the documentary film “Sacred Alaska” which was released early in 2024. With a focus on choral composition, James has also written for solo instruments as well as small chamber ensembles and large ensembles. He has had works performed by the Wheaton College Concert Choir, The Ephemera Singers, and The Hesed String Quartet. James has studied with Shawn Okpebholo, Xavier Beteta, Misook Kim, and Howard Whitaker, and is an ASCAP-registered composer.
